Some of the best kits in 2010

The Sewing Party offers a studio-like atmosphere where quilters can come work on their projects, take classes, and be inspired by luscious contemporary fabrics and beautiful quilts.

The quilt shown here is made with Amy Butler fabric in green tea, sky blue, a whisper of gray and velvety brown.

Gee's Bend Kit
Were you taken away by the incredible quilts from the Gee’s Bend Quilters when you first saw them?  The Sewing Party had kits for you to make your very own.  These were “limited edition” quilt kits consisting of hand dyed fabrics and based off of the “House Top” quilt made by Rita Mae Pettway.  Windham Fabrics teamed up with the Gee’s Bend Quilter’s Collective to produce 4 kits that are replicas of originals all created by quilter’s from Gee’s Bend:

“A small remote community in Alabama (pop. 700), represents the genius of a group of exceptional quilters who, for more than a century, have created distinctive works of art for their homes and families. The textile artists of Gee’s Bend are the inheritors of a tradition that goes back many generations. The “discovery” of these unique American masterpieces has led to their exhibition in museums including The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among others.”
