Some of the best kits in 2010

The Sewing Party offers a studio-like atmosphere where quilters can come work on their projects, take classes, and be inspired by luscious contemporary fabrics and beautiful quilts.

Amy Butler kit

The quilt shown here is made with Amy Butler fabric in green tea, sky blue, a whisper of gray and velvety brown.

Gee's Bend Kit
Were you taken away by the incredible quilts from the Gee’s Bend Quilters when you first saw them?  The Sewing Party had kits for you to make your very own.  These were “limited edition” quilt kits consisting of hand dyed fabrics and based off of the “House Top” quilt made by Rita Mae Pettway.  Windham Fabrics teamed up with the Gee’s Bend Quilter’s Collective to produce 4 kits that are replicas of originals all created by quilter’s from Gee’s Bend:

“A small remote community in Alabama (pop. 700), represents the genius of a group of exceptional quilters who, for more than a century, have created distinctive works of art for their homes and families. The textile artists of Gee’s Bend are the inheritors of a tradition that goes back many generations. The “discovery” of these unique American masterpieces has led to their exhibition in museums including The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among others.”

Looking back to 2010

Looking back, way back to 2010. Sewing Party had “Nicey Jane” collection by Heather Bailey from Free Spirit Fabrics! Our very talented Kathy from the shop made Heather’s “Smarty Girl Book Bag” (see picture below). She also made a beautiful ruffle-y pillow with this yummy new fabric. Many customers living in the area had a lots of fun sewing with these fabrics. If you like Nicey Jane, the “Sewing Party” Quilt Shop also has many other collections of feminine, romantic fabrics with a retro vintage vibe.

Talented Cecile

Aren’t these pillows pretty?!
Cecile made them for display in the shop.  They show off Anna Marie Horner very well,  one of her very favorite designers. Cecile is a very talented sewer, quilter, and pattern designer.  She enjoys dreaming up and creating all kinds of projects from home deco to personal accessories and of course, those lovely, lovely quilts in her shop.
She has taken many seminars with Kaffe Fasset and has made many of his quilts. She loves the really challenging patterns with curved seams, Y seams and the like, and she makes it look all so easy. Half the fun of coming to her studio/shop is seeing her creative energies at work and on display.

Hoorah! New blog.

Welcome to Sewingparty - a great playground for the sewists of all sizes and shapes!
